Why is there a picture of Kermit the Frog on these fashion pages?
That’s a good question. Did you ever think you’d look at Kermit the Frog as a style icon? Probably not. But his time has come. OK, so he hasn’t been seen on the catwalk recently. And Anna Wintour isn’t rocking his trademark collar (yet). But Kermie green is everywhere.
What exactly is ‘Kermie green’?
It’s a zesty yellow-green hue that conjures up images of new beginnings and springtime – when nature renews itself, foliage flourishes and the great outdoors feels alive. Colour guru Pantone call it ‘Greenery’ and has named it the shade of the year, saying it “symbolises the reconnection we see with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
Ooh, I’m feeling more relaxed already…
Exactly. Pantone calls it ‘nature’s neutral’ and chose it because we are craving a natural environment as a sanctuary from our hectic lifestyles. This thirst for greenery has worked its way into everyday life across the globe – through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices.
I want some! Where can I get it?
Pretty much everywhere. Lots of retailers have introduced this fresh and fabulous colour into their fashion, beauty and interiors ranges – so there are plenty of ways to make your life a little greener. Airbnb even has a ‘Greenery’ house complete with a bright green door and tree-lined walls.
