JET SET
~A|wear launches autumn ‘11~
Clean lines, longer silhouettes & higher waists are this season’s buzz words in Irish highstreet favourite A|wear’s new autumn collection. The looks are both classic and chic while remaining modern and inspired by the iconic fashion eras of the 60’s & 70’s. The colour palette is warm and perfect for female Irish skin tones. Shades of honey brown, ochre, camel & terracotta are key alongside variations of the all important red family including claret and burgundy. Conversational style prints are an autumn staple sitting alongside polka dots & paisley designs as well as pretty florals.
Speaking on the launch of the new season, Brand CEO, A|wearAnnmarie Floodsaid “autumn is a season we absolutely love here at A|wear. This season, we have a trip down memory lane in store with great pieces borrowed from the most inspirational eras of the 60’s & 70’s. I am particularly fond of these iconic eras because of their great fashion attitude & diversity. Continuing to offer great value is as important as ever & we’ve made sure this collection combines autumn wardrobe staples and your key fashion essentials that won’t break the bank. For example the wide leg pleated palazzo pant which features in our autumn campaign is just €50 & a must have piece for the season ahead.”
Coats & Jackets
A combination of lean and tailored styles are on offer as well as more relaxed shapes. From the herringbone tweed fitted jacket (€60) to the cropped style leopard faux fur (€70), it’s all to play for. At ‘back to college time’ consider the parka in khaki and cream with detachable fur trim hood as an autumn failsafe & for those chilly days ahead both fur and shearling jackets are a must. Not forgetting that smart timeless piece that can take you anywhere – the classic pea coat with a twist will serve you well (€70).
Knitwear
Knitwear is without doubt high on the radar this season. The cable sweater (€30), not as we’ve known it, more shrunken now in its silhouette will be a key essential for casual wear. This season is about being cosy & warm so ‘rug up’ in a blanket style wrap or a soft waterfall cardi. It’s not all about ‘chunky’ either; fine gauge knitwear will also be popular particularly in rib roll necks (€25) which act as essential layering pieces.
Dresses
Lengths are definitely that little bit longer this season moving closer to the knee and beyond. Prints are influenced by heritage design and appear in light chiffon fabrics with Peter Pan style collars & skinny waisted belts (€40). Wear them with thick opaques & ankle boots. The staple wrap dress which was first designed by DVF in 1972 is in a spot print (€45), perfect for that special occasion. The main thing to take note of is that dresses are becoming more grown up as well as more covered up with long sleeves and higher necklines.
Blouses and skirts
In blouses, we can’t get enough of the pussy bow in chiffon styles with horse print & floral motifs (€32), every wardrobe needs at least one this season! Borrowed from the boys, the masculine style blouse gets that girly treatment by adding either bib or lace detail (€32) and can be worn with either the cuffed trouser (€45) and heels or with skinny denims and simple ballet flats. The shell shape top with Peter Pan collar (€32) in an array of colours & prints makes for another office to evening essential. Lace in both black and cream is also one to watch in blouses this season. In skirts, wrap styles, a-line, skater and pencil are all the key shapes.
Trousers
We can’t get enough of the trouser in all its guises. Peg leg, cuff cropped, wide leg and cigarette….there’s a style and shape for everyone. The wide leg belted flare in tweed is key, team with a fitted blouse and simple blazer on top. Another must is the crop style cigarette trouser (€45). Wear with a cropped jacket, cable sweater, chunky socks & ankle boots or brogues for a cool casual look for day. Team with a pussy bow blouse, lace socks & kitten heels or stilettos to take you to evening. Shorts also appear this season in tweeds and flannels (€38), ideal with thick ribbed tights, a pretty blouse and chunky cardigan. The leather look style short in black & a deep tan shade (€45) will easily find its way into your wardrobe. Just add great opaque tights, the high heeled biker boot a simple ribbed polo neck (€25) and you’re set to go!
Accessories
In bags it’s mainly about the ‘Big Bag’. Textured fabrics and finishes with chunky hardware featuring across the collection. Cross body styles and satchel shapes are also important. In colour and print, colour blocking is very much on trend and using a great coloured bag helps you in achieving that overall colour blocking effect. In the fashion world this year it’s important what you carry but even more important how you carry it….so hug yours close. In scarves, the bigger the better with fringing on blanket style wraps along with an array of chunky cable knits. Socks whether chunky and scrunched worn with heeled biker boots or delicate ankle length styles worn with mannish brogues, all are an absolute essential to create and complete your individual look. With belts…keep it skinny!
